Sylvin Rubinstein – Resistance Fighter & Flamenco Dancer

ARTE, the European documentary-maker has commissioned this German-language film about the extraordinary life of Sylvin Rubinstein, the flamenco dancer and resistance fighter. Jonathan was interviewed in Paris for the documentary and his featured input covers aspects of life in Poland during the Nazi occupation. Rubinstein was a Russian Jew who found pre-war fame as part of a notable brother and sister flamenco act in Poland. During the wartime occupation Rubinstein used his cross-dressing to disguise his role as a member of the Polish resistance. Together with an anti-Nazi Wehrmacht officer, Major Kurt Werner, he helped create mayhem behind the lines.
